I am an accredited BACP registered psychodynamic psychotherapist working in central Brighton with adults and older teens.
I initially trained as a Dance Movement Psychotherapist 17 years ago, working with children and families as well as older people living with dementia. I have also previously practised DBT, a treatment that aims to offer skills to help manage overwhelming emotions and impulsive behaviour and is often recommended for people who have received a borderline personality disorder diagnosis.
There are a variety of reasons why you might want to talk with a therapist, it might be about trying to manage a difficult life event that's impacting you, or that you are aware that something in the past is affecting your life right now. It could be that certain emotions seem to take over unhelpfully, while others don’t make an appearance at all. Or you might have a sense of unease, or dissatisfaction, a feeling you could be getting more from life but aren’t quite sure how to.
I’ll work to help us develop a strong working alliance to explore the meaning of whatever is going on for you in your inner and outer worlds. This is important, as while I will bring my training and experience and my belief in the value of psychodynamic ways of thinking about distress, your therapy will be unique, meaning we will need to develop a way of thinking together that best supports you and helps us both put into words the different parts of your experience.
The therapeutic relationship is a unique one, not found elsewhere in our lives and has the potential to support the exploration of what feels painful and difficult as well as help foster something genuinely new in your life.
